Streaker Nationals - Gillard back for more

Tom Gillard takes seventh Streaker Championship title

Tom Gillard first won the Streaker Nationals back in 2010. Since then he has only been beaten to the trophy once and for most of this time his main rival has been Ian Jones, and so it was this year.

Gillard opened his campaign at Carsington SC with back to back wins, before Jones stepped in to claim race 3.

Gillard then took race 4 ahead of Jones, with Isaac Marsh claiming third who then went on to win race 5 and put himself in a podium position.

Race 6 on Sunday morning had all the ingredients to make it a frustrating experience for Gillard and to leave the Championship wide open again.

Jones took his second race win, with Veronica Falat second and Marsh in third. Gillard was back in fifth place and suddenly everything was on the line.

Jones was now back in with a chance of winning the championship. With one race to go, he had a 1 point lead.

Everything now depended on Race 7 – and Gillard made no mistakes.

At the start, he held Jones to windward of the committee boat. When the gun went Gillard could accelerate away but Jones couldn’t.

After that Gillard picked off the boats ahead during the next couple of laps, to eventually finish the race with a good lead, and Jones back in seventh place . . . Job done.
