Williams into Semi-final in Match Cup Sweden

Britain's Ian Williams nailed the final race of his Quarter Final in Marstrand

Williams took a decisive victory in the first two matches against Taylor Canfield, and despite a strong fight back by Canfield to level the score, Williams was able to take final race.

The six-time World Champion will now face Aussie Harry Price in his semi-final.

Yann Guichard will face and Nicklas Dackhammar, both winning their Quarter Final 3-0, in the other Semi Final Stage lineup.

Yann Guichard on Spindrift Racing took three straight victories over local hero Johnie Berntsson, and continued a winning streak in which the French team has looked in a league of their own at times.

The other Swede in this competition, local Gothenburg skipper Nicklas Dackhammar, is now flying the flag solo after he beat Sam Gilmour in three straight matches.

In an all-Australian battle, reigning Match Racing World Champion Torvar Mirsky was racing Sydney’s young match racing sensation, Harry Price.

The match went to a sudden death finish, which saw a close race with Price catching Mirsky on starboard tack on the final leg, giving Price all the opportunity he needed to grasp the race and lead home to the finish.

The Women’s Class resumes Saturday following a break Friday.

New Zealand’s Olivia Mackay made a surprise pick of opponent in Anna Östling, the most experienced M32 racer in the fleet. That left Clare Costanzo to battle Renee Groeneveld.

Semi Final Stages in both classes will run side-by-side Saturday starting at 10:00 in the GKSS Match Cup Sweden where more of the same is hoped for.
