Volvo Ocean Race - Pressure on Turn The Tide

Turn the Tide on Plastic remains in the lead of the Volvo Ocean Race on Saturday, but Vestas 11th Hour Racing is closing the gap.Team AkzoNobel -

Vestas 11th Hour Racing has had a productive 24 hours on Leg 8 of the Volvo Ocean Race, cutting its deficit to leader Turn the Tide on Plastic in half.

The leaders are sailing in light to moderate trade wind conditions, with 8 to 12 knots of wind just behind the beam – one of the fastest, and most comfortable, sailing angles for the Volvo Ocean 65s.

For previous race leader MAPFRE, it’s been a difficult 48 hours. Bad luck with the cloud activity has pushed them down the rankings and they are now 43 miles behind the leader and trailing rival Dongfeng by 30 miles.

Leg 8 Positions as at 16:20 UTC on Saturday 28 April:

1. Turn The Tide on Plastic (Dee Caffari) -- distance to finish -- 3,616 nautical miles
2. Vestas 11th Hour Racing (Charlie Enright) +7 nm
3. Dongfeng Race Team (Charles Caudrelier) +12 nm
4. Team Brunel (Bouwe Bekking) +22 nm
5. Team AkzoNobel (Simeon Tienpont) +24 nm
6. MAPFRE (Xabi Fernández) +43 nm
7. Sun Hung Kai Scallywag (David Witt) +64 nm
