Marseille World Cup completes the 2017-18 circuit

Marseille World Cup event completes the 2017 - 2018 World Sailing Series

World Sailing's 2018 World Cup Series will draw to a close in Marseille, France as the Paris 2024 Olympic Sailing Competition venue hosts the Final.

The event will be missing the 49er and 49erFX fleets and the British Team Finn and 470 men sailors are also skipping the event, but there will still be considerable Team GBR presence.

Ben Saxton and Nicola Boniface will race in their first regatta since officially teaming up to campaign for Tokyo 2020 alongside Medemblik bronze medallists John Gimson and Anna Burnet.

And Olympian Nick Thompson will face the young pretenders for his Tokyo Olympic spot, Elliot Hanson’s with a win at Medemblik Regatta on his return from injury, and Michael Beckett fresh from a silver medal at the European Championships.

Team GBR top 470 pair, Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre, will look to defend their World Cup Series title in Marseille this week in their final test ahead of the Sailing World Championships.

Mills and McIntyre missed the recent 470 European championships to dedicate more time to training, so it will be interesting to see how that pays off.

RS:X windsurfer Kieran Holmes-Martin, who also won a bronze in Medemblik, will race alongside Tom Squires and Andy Brown in the men’s fleet.

No Bryony Shaw in the women’s RS:X fleet, where youth world champion Emma Wilson is the sole representative.

Racing begins at 11:00 local time on Tuesday 5 June and will conclude with medal races on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June.
